We plans to send a team to Glasgow in the autumn to help and learn from a church plant with Urban Expression similar to us on the Possilpark Estate.

You can see pictures of the Possilpark estate if you are a member of CFS. Click on that link and scroll down to Emma's photos.

Dave and Emma are part of that church and a church planting team with Urban Expression. They were previously with us for a while. Even before that they have camped alongside us when our youth group went to Soul Survivor camps and other shared events go back with people in CFS long before CFS started. Dave though living in Glasgow attends one of our Monday night groups each week as he commutes to our area each week for work! Read a bit of outdated stuff about their church leaders here: www.urbanexpression.org.uk/estherandpaul

CFS is looking for keen volunteers...who are prepared to do anything and share something of their lives with others for a couple of days in the team of about 8-10 of us. Whilst there we will work and be together, dividing into smaller groups each night to sleep in the homes of church members. Unlike the previous trip to Holland, this time a few children of an age and attitude where they can join the team and work are welcome.

How much? Because of the flight we cannot give an exact cost, but around £80 should cover all food and travel costs. If you don't have this much money but would like to take part, we can explore various funding options with you.

A rough programme:

  • Wednesday: Early morning travel from Southend via Stansted Airport to Glasgow and meet up with their church.
  • Thursday/Friday: Roll up our sleeves and do some useful activities such as decorating/gardening to help the church and those they are in contact with
A bit of time to look round Glasgow
And some time sharing stories with their church.
  • Saturday: Join in with them and head home about lunchtime – tired and content!

If this sounds exciting and you would like to take part of it then get in touch by 20th July.
CLOT will arrange for a selection process and confirm by the end of July if you are going to be going to Glasgow in 2009!

Minimum requirements:

  • A valid passport (needed even for internal flights will cost you about £72)
  • If under 18 years the person must have a parent or privately arranged guardian with them.
  • Ready to do practical things which might be gardening or decorating and work as part of a team. If you have medical concerns just talk to us…
  • A heart to encourage and bless the church and people of Glasgow practically.
